The Brahms is indeed a lovely 24/88 remaster. I also ordered and received the Wand Bruckner 1-9 box from the new Sony series, and there is no mastering information on the package as far as I can tell. Does anyone know if the...

Can anyone help me understand why I find this music so utterly 'directionless'?It is a digital recording from 1981 by DG (Stereo 2532 003)I experience this Brahms recording in particular, as 'going nowhere' , directionless, as if put together by some...

Thinking of this discussion I just revisited a "time-related" post I made years ago:http://www.goodsoundclub.com/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=9884Great work from Fritz Reiner, directing the RSO through Brahms' 4th Symphony, and perhaps worth a close l...

Today was dark and rainy, and the electricity was much better than I have heard it for some time. Though I have not listened a lot since I did the recent changes, the parts seem to be breaking in nicely. Today I listened first to some Brahms Interm...

My original post asked: "Do you love Bartók?" - maybe you'd missed that?It was eluding to the famous novel's title by F. Sagan. Bartók's concert was just one of his compositions I'd listened too when writing the OP.Your response indicated to me that ...
I will still buy clean Seraphims with good program material if I do not have the original. If I do have the original, I pass on the Seraphim, even as a "back-up", UNLESS it is a record I have loved so much that I am killing it.M...

Last and this weeks I played mostly LP records. I have only one arm and one needle setup after my move to new room – I did not decide that what final configuration I will have for my analog. Today, while I am in Brahms wave I played the entire box of...

Julia Fischer is coming in Boston in a few weeks with Beethoven Concerto and Mark Wigglesworth will lead BSO. I kind of slowly am contemplating to go or not to go. She is making a lot of good waves around the world… which is not necessary a good sign...

So I just need to click "open files" I add all the ones into a given work and the program plays them in a row. Probably sound quality is not near of what you get from your software, but considering how handicapped is the system I use, I really don't ...

Nor was he prone to bad taste or even satire. I have never been a big Brahms fan but his musical propriety has integrity. ...

Yes, I do know what you mean about Asahina. I have DVDs of a Brahms symphony cycle - 4 is good (not wonderful), 2 not bad, 3 is just plain boring (and it is one of my favourite symphonies). I haven't gotten around to 1 yet - t...

I understand. I wish I could go to the States anytime soon, but I'm afraid I need more holidays. In any case maybe you could, from time to time, comment us about some of them, whenever you listen to them or whatever. Some Beethoven, Mendhelsson, Brah...
Firstly, no form of criticism was implied, why at all? Bartók just seems to give you some form of 'empty notion' perhaps, as does Brahms with me.
I was not talking about Bartók. I told about the very specific Bartók's com...

The musical performances on the disc all seem excellent to me. I particularly liked the Kodaly cello piece which was new to me. The sound quality (when played on the ghetto blaster) seems pretty good as well. It certainly brings that machine to life....

Clark, nope, my eyes are red because of the Reality. The polite guys - well educated Nazi officers - very much loved to play piano and discuss the details of the fine arts, particularly after a fresh kill of a few hundred people. It was a ni...
